Eloise Day 3

We are all just fine.

There, wasnt that worth waiting for? No? Okay, more details!

Lisa and I are adjusting to the odd sleep hours, and learning the little hints that this little lady gives us as to what she wants. Never foolproof, but some key hints like, “burp me, damnit!” and “wouldnt it be nice if I had a clean diaper?” and the never-fail “Wow, I’m just famished. I would like a meal please.”

I have lots of pictures to post, a little video, and I have been taking a few notes to remember the things that a picture or a video wont capture, but should be remembered forever.

Eloise has scratched her poor little face a bit with those little nails. It breaks your heart to see her perfect little face dinged up at all. We tried gloves, but her wee hands slide right out. The long fold-over sleeve shirts they have here are good, but you can tell she gets frustrated when she cant suck her fingers. She is just going to have to deal with covered sleeves though, until she can get a little baby manicure.

She is here!

arrived at 11:00am on Monday June 16th. She was 6 pounds 11 ounces at time of birth, 20.75 inches long, and she is gorgeous. She is happy, healthy and all systems appear to be functioning normally. She has light hair (to be determined just how light) and (for now) blue eyes. She has a wonderful set of lungs, that work extremely well when she does not get her way.

Mom and baby are both in recovery mode right now, and daddy is being a nerd and blogging everything. The nursing staff here at Newton Wellesley Hospital has been excellent, and very understanding with the nervous new parents.

The Final Countdown

12 06 2008

Well folks, the results are in. Pending any last minute complications, the delivery date (and time) will be:

Monday June 16th at approx 10:00am

So, nobody won the “baby-date-gamblotron-bonanza-2008″, but oh well. It was fun anyway, wasn’t it?

Lisa’s doctor decided that the tittle one was just running out of space, and she needed to come a bit earlier than previously planned (June 20th). She was able to pull a few strings, and get us in for next Monday. We arrive at the hospital around 8:00, sleepless and nervous as hell, and Lisa is prepped. All things going well, and no doctor delays, and we will have our little girl shortly after 10:00am. I will most likely be revived from my fainting sometime after that, and we will have our beautiful girl!

We will be delivering our little wonder at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, MA. Google Maps Link.

Pictures to be posted on my Flickr account.

Lots of activity to follow on this page, so please stay tuned.

In closing, I leave you with this clip, from “The Soup” that I cannot get out of my head, and now, you wont be able to get out of yours. Enjoy!

Rotary Dialing – You must first dial a 1

6 06 2008

There is a certain measurement, marked in centimeters, that goes from 1 to 10. It does not directly influence our timing, but it is a good indicator of how ready the little lady is to arrive.

Our current status is:
1 Centimeter
(DEFCON 4)

All bets marked for after the 20th have already been refunded, all bets for anywhere close to the 20th are advised to take a good long look at their high-school diploma and make sure it doesn’t say “preschool”.

I’m charging my headset right now.

NYTimes Article
I know, I know, old news. But who knew those cool glowing watches from the 20s could be harmful too? Certainly not the poor Radium Girls (wikipedia).
I am more likely destined for Godzilla-like exposure to radioactivity from all the other electronic devices that surround me every day. But I have to try, I have to think for more than just myself now, I’m actually going to have “dependents”!

Italian Spiderman Movie – Episode 1

Looks like 70s cheese. I think its a spoof, but those crazy Italians, you never know.

Um, wow. Just, wow.

Visit with Nana

1 06 2008

It is a GORGEOUS day here in Mass. It is high 70s, low 80s. Big, puffy clouds floating by, and a nice gusting breeze to give the bugs a run for their money. Lisa (with baby) and I hiked up to Maynard to have lunch with Nana. We met her sitting outside with her friends from the housing complex. The cats were outside playing and play-fighting (got awesome video of this, that I will share later) and we had a little picnic under the trees along the walkway. Nana is doing fine, and she was very happy to see us. My Aunt sally stopped by and stayed with us for a while, she has been off cigarettes for six months now and she is on a good diet, she looks great!

Here is a little snapshot I took with our video camera of our lovely Nana.

She apparently loves Newman’s Own “Lemonade Ice Tea”, we’ll have to bring a crate of it to her the next time we visit. A lady of Nana’s age can have as much of anything she likes, as far as I’m concerned, she’s earned the right.

VW Peace:
On the way home on 495, Lisa passed out in the nice A.C. and I noticed a car puled up to my left out of the corner of my eye. You know how you can tell when a car is pacing you, well, this one was. So I took a look expecting some stupid kids making stupid faces (as I have probably done a zillion times) and to my surprise, there was a long haired hippy-type guy, about my age, with a huge grin and a entusiastic “peace sign” with his fingers. I “peace sign”ed back and he and his friend picked up the pace and took off. Bombing down 495 in a dark blue VW Golf, pretty much damn near the same car as mine. Friendship among Golf-ers, I guess. Well, anyway something about those smiling hippies really made my day. Thanks a lot guys! :-D

Delivery Update Strikes Back

1 06 2008

Howdy folks. So little Miss Baby Murphy is scheduled for a delivery by Caesarian Section on Friday June 20th. We are still honoring our original bets. Since the odds have been tilted more in the house’s favor, we are giving a better payout. Winner will no longer get the first diaper change, but can be the recipient of their very own spit-up sample. Just come by, we’ll tell you when to hold her to accomplish this (shouldnt be that hard to predict).

Indiana Jones and the Sorcerer’s Skull with Tarzan and E.T.

1 06 2008

Hey everyone. No spoilers here. I just finished reading (warning: spoilers) Chris’s review of Indiana Jones 4 (which I saw last night) and I’m in the grumpy-nerd mindset right now. As a lover of the chronicles of Dr. Jones, I can honestly say that I’m more than a little let-down.
